Project
Teachers’ Education, Development and Career in Austria (TEDCA)
The project combines four longitudinal studies, some of which have been running for more than three decades. The purpose of this project is to investigate teachers’ biographies – from the phase of choosing a course of study and training, through the years in the profession, and up to career decisions within and outside the education system. Our research activities cover areas such as personality, competencies and social wellbeing. The most recent survey started in 2018 and addressed approximately 7.000 graduates of university colleges of teacher education who completed their degree between 1988 and 2017. This project aims at gaining more in-depth insights into teachers’ biographies which often remain invisible, and to develop research-based study materials for teacher training and career counselling purposes. The study involves researchers from the Institute of Instructional and School Development at the Alpen-Adria-University Klagenfurt and from all Austrian university colleges of teacher education. For specific sub-areas, researchers from other universities in Austria and abroad are also involved. The lead has a team around Johannes Mayr (Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt, Austria). Prof. Cramer is a collaborator in the field of personality traits and burnout among teachers in longitudinal perspective.
